(AP) — New Orleans Saints receiver Michael Thomas is facing simple battery and criminal mischief charges following a confrontation with a construction worker, police said Saturday. Thomas, 30, was arrested without incident Friday night, was cooperative with investigators and was released later that night, Kenner police Lt. Mark McCormick said. The person spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity Saturday because the team has not publicly discussed Thomas' status for the game. Police say the incident occured in front of a home under construction near Thomas' home. In 2019, Thomas set an NFL record for catches in a season with 149.

Afterward, I listened to "Summer Renaissance," Beyoncé's reworking of one of my favorite songs, Donna Summer's 1977 disco hit "I Feel Love," on repeat. Beyoncé's daughter, Blue Ivy, dances, as her mother sings behind her on the London, U.K. leg of the Renaissance World Tour in May 2023. Virgin Hotels New Orleans, where I stayed, is only a half-mile from the Superdome stadium, and was well-prepared to host the many concertgoers who stayed there. NEW ORLEANS (AP) — New Orleans Saints quarterback Derek Carr, who entered Sunday listed as questionable with a sprained throwing shoulder, has been activated for Sunday's game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, raising the likelihood that he would start. After Carr was hurt on a sack by Green Bay's Rashan Gary in the second half of last week's game, backup QB Jameis Winston took over and completed 10 of 16 passes for 101 yards in the 18-17 loss to Green Bay. Winston took most of the first-team snaps in practice this week, but Carr held out hope of playing even if he didn't throw much during the week. Many communities in south Louisiana rely on the Mississippi’s fresh water, with their water intake treatment facilities located along the river. Unimpeded salt water continues to creep upriver and threatens municipal drinking water. Edwards warns that other parishes may soon be affected by the salt water, including Orleans, St. Bernard and Jefferson. Instead, residents will be notified in advance if salt water will affect their area. And not just in Louisiana, but further north to strengthen the river’s flow,WILL THE SALT WATER AFFECT OTHER THINGS?

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell said Monday that she has chosen Anne Kirkpatrick, a former chief of police in Spokane, Washington, and Oakland, California, to head the New Orleans Police Department, a nomination subject to the approval of the City Council. Kirkpatrick, if approved, would be the permanent replacement for Shaun Ferguson, who retired from the job last year. The post has been held on an interim basis by Michelle Woodfork, a longtime veteran of the New Orleans department, who had also applied for the job. She was tapped to help with police reform efforts in Chicago under then-Mayor Rahm Emmanuel in 2017. Voters approved a measure last year granting the council the right to approve or reject a nominee for police chief.

Hopeful homebuyers can use price-to-rent ratios to see where the best deals are. Decade-high mortgage rates and a housing market shortage have made homebuying complicated for everyone, and impossible for many. That way, buyers can get an attractive deal and build equity instead of getting caught in a housing market bubble. Below are the 34 such markets, along with the price-to-rent ratio as of July 31, the average price-to-rent ratio since March 2015, and the current premium to that long-term average. Only one city — New Orleans, Louisiana — has a discounted price-to-rent ratio, meaning that the city is especially appealing for buyers right now.

Over the past few months, The New York Times has asked experts to answer the question, What would you play a friend to make them fall in love with jazz? The United States is full of cities with their own rich jazz histories, but none goes back as far as New Orleans. To really discover the beauty of New Orleans jazz, the in-person experience is key. But unless you’re about to book a trip, why not take five minutes to read and listen, and see if you get hooked? In the 100-plus years since then, New Orleans has remained something of a cultural anomaly in the United States: rooted in its own traditions, and fortified against broader commercial trends.
